We’ve looked at a lot of congeners in 2021; So let’s end the year with another coupling: Pains and Throws. One refers to pains or spasms, while the other refers to throwing or dropping objects into the air.
(Common typing errors and how to fix them.)
So let’s take a look at the differences between labors and throws and when to use each.
Pangs vs throws
great pain is the plural form of the noun throe, which refers to aches or spasms. For example, people might say that someone experiences the pain of death or the pain of love when they suffer either.
(Where are toxic families in children’s books?)
at the same time, throws It can be used as a noun or a verb. Throws, as a verb, refers to the act of throwing or dropping something into the air (such as a baseball to a catcher or the dishes at a cheater’s pair). There are other connotations, too, including a person throwing their arms around someone or throwing a tantrum. As a plural noun, throws refers to the act of throwing or a piece of clothing (such as a small blanket) that people might use to cover themselves.
Logical?
Here are some examples of pains and throws:
shout: He found it difficult to sleep when he got stuck in the pain of craving.
incorrect: He found it difficult to sleep when he fell into the throws of passion.
shout: Her first throws missed the target.
incorrect: Her first pain was misspellings.
While it is possible for a football player stuck in the heat of competition to throw passion throws, people are more likely to refer to them as competitive (or emotional) throws. Heaven knows my grammar checker tries to correct me in such cases. I don’t have a nice memory trick for choosing the correct word, but you can probably think of the past tense form of throwing as you threw (both have a ‘w’), while there is no past tense.
