TikTok’s Testing a New Option to Invite Your Connections in Other Apps to View Your Clips, and Follow Your Profile

TikTok is testing a new feature designed to help creators grow their followers by inviting their connections on other apps to view their clips and follow their TikTok profile in one swipe.

As you can see in this example, posted by Dan Schenker (and participates in it Matt Navarra), the new option, now available to some users, allows you to share your latest TikTok clip across multiple third-party platforms. When recipients in these other apps click the link to view your shared video, they will also automatically follow your TikTok account, which helps increase views and followers.

It’s a simple way to boost your audience on TikTok, and connect with people you know on other platforms, who may or may not already be TikTok users.

Which is the main advantage of TikTok – by enabling users to invite others outside the platform, which will bring more users back to TikTok, who will then need to sign up for an account, if they don’t already have one, in order to view the shared clip.

There is, of course, a risk that this could be used for spam, as users could forward their clips to all of their contacts on other networks. TikTok has limited this by only enabling you to share your clips with one contact at a time, while you can also only share them with people you’re already connected to in these other apps, which means you’re less likely to forward clips to strangers.

But there are still some unwelcome impulses from highly ardent TikTokers looking to “growth hack” on their way to perceived popularity. Again, it appears to be less of a concern, given the process, but it can still end up being an issue in some cases.

It can be an easy way to get more of your connections to see your TikTok clips, and boost your connections among the people who are more likely to leave you likes (because they know you), which can help boost your performance more broadly. It’s not clear how many users can access the function at this point – we’ve asked TikTok for more information and will update this post if/when we receive a response.
